  • 13th Street to Close Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6

Thirteenth Street, from the Union Pacific Railroad tracks west to the entrance of the Furman Aquatic Center, will close beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 6, for street reconstruction. This phase of street improvements requires the total closure of the street for no more than 21 days. The City’s contractor, Con-Struct, will use this time to remove the remaining two lanes of existing pavement, lower the grade of the remaining lanes to improve sight distance, and pour back all new lanes and shared use path.

  • City of Ames Offices Closed on Labor Day

Most City of Ames departments and divisions will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in recognition of Labor Day. Offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

  • Input Sought on South 3rd and 4th Street Improvements

The City of Ames is moving forward on design improvement plans for South Third Street (from South Grand Avenue to South Duff Avenue) and South 4th Street (from Squaw Creek to South Grand Avenue). Public input received early in the process will ensure the project meets the needs of users. A meeting about the improvements is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 in Room 135 of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. This project will include pavement improvements, drainage improvements, and the addition of on-street bike improvements on South 3rd Street. The project is scheduled to be constructed during spring and summer of 2017. The City has contracted with Shive-Hattery, Inc. of West Des Moines, for design work.
