  • Spring Yard Waste Free Day Set for May 13

    The spring Yard Waste Free Day will be held on Saturday, May 13, at Chamness Technology, which has a new site at 400 Freel Drive in east Ames. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents will be able to get rid of yard waste, including brush, at no charge during this event.

  • Historic Preservation Commission To Host Speaker

    The Ames Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to a presentation by Steve Wilke-Shapiro, architect with Slingshot Architecture in Des Moines. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8, in the City Council Chambers, Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave.

  • Vault Replacement Delayed

    A project to replace two concrete vault lids in Downtown Ames has been delayed by weather. The new start day is Monday, May 1. Ames Electric Services will be working with a contractor to replace concrete vault lids, and the project will affect some parking spaces and traffic flow.

  • City Channel 12 Receives Program Recognition

    Four programs produced for the City of Ames cable television station Channel 12 received recognition at the 2017 Best of the Midwest Media Fest including one Achievement Award, three Excellence Awards, and Best in Show – Government recognition. Cable TV Coordinator Derek Crisler served as producer for all four videos that received awards.

  • Public Input Sought for CDBG Annual Action Plan

    The public is encouraged to provide input to the City of Ames on its 2017-2018 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Annual Action Plan, which will outline the proposed activities, project locations, and proposed budgets being funded by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The federal budget allocation for the 2017-18 CDBG program is projected to be $490,986, which is the same as 2016-2017. This funding would cover the program year beginning July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018.

  • Entries Sought for Water Plant Art Contest

    The City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Department is sponsoring a public art contest and exhibition to obtain public art for the new water treatment plant. Artists may enter up to three two-dimensional pieces of art for the contest and exhibition. The theme for each piece must pertain to water. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017.
