  • Goats on the Go to Return to Ada Hayden

    The Parks and Recreation Department have partnered with the Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park to conduct another targeted grazing application on approximately 3.5 acres of land on the southeast boundary of Ada Hayden Heritage Park. The goats are returning to the park on Wednesday, June 28, for this grazing.

  • South Third Street Work begins on Wednesday

    South Third Street, from South Walnut Avenue to South Sherman Avenue, will be closed for street improvements beginning on Wednesday, June 28, and continuing for one to two weeks, weather permitting.

  • Public Input Sought for CDBG Annual Action Plan

    The public is encouraged to provide input to the City of Ames on its 2017-2018 CDBG Annual Action Plan, which will outline the proposed activities, project locations, and proposed budgets being funded by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.

  • Tripp Street Intersection to Close for Repairs

    Vehicle traffic will be prohibited through the west intersection of Tripp Street and Village Drive beginning on Wednesday, June 21, for repair work to the sanitary sewer. Vehicles should detour to Dotson Drive to the west or South Franklin Avenue to the east.

  • Mosquito Fogging to Begin June 19

    Mosquito fogging in City parks will begin Monday, June 19, and will continue until the end of September or when mosquito population thresholds are no longer exceeded. Ames residents who are planning large events may call the Parks and Recreation Department and request that a specific park be fogged before their event.

  • Furman Aquatic Center Facing Staffing Challenges

    Ames Park and Recreation Department is reducing hours at Municipal Pool and temporarily adjusting availability to basins at the Furman Aquatic Center in response to staff shortages. Finding lifeguards and slide attendants to staff the facility can be difficult, but this year the shortage has been significant.

  • Public Pianos to be Installed in Parks on Thursday

    Two Ames parks will be the host sites for public pianos this summer in an effort to enhance the visual and music opportunities around the community. As part of the Ames Public Piano Project, the Parks and Recreation Department will assist in installing pianos on Thursday in Tom Evans Plaza and Campustown Court.

  • Water Testing Begins at Ada Hayden

    The Water and Pollution Control Department is working with the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL), based in Iowa City, to perform water quality monitoring at Ada Hayden Heritage Park. The in-depth monitoring of the lake began this week and will continue for the summer.

  • Traffic Narrowed at Lincoln Way, Sheldon Avenue Intersection for Construction Project

    Construction on the River Caddis project at Lincoln Way and Sheldon Avenue will require the closure of the outside eastbound lane of Lincoln Way through the completion of the work. During construction, traffic on Lincoln Way between Sheldon and Hyland Avenues will be funneled into three lanes – an eastbound lane, westbound lane, and a dedicated center turning lane for traffic access to Sheldon Avenue.

  • Entries Sought for Water Plant Art Contest

    The City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Department is sponsoring a public art contest and exhibition to obtain public art for the new water treatment plant. Artists may enter up to three two-dimensional pieces of art for the contest and exhibition. The theme for each piece must pertain to water. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017.
